Understand Level 3 Home Care Packages

The Australian Government offers funding to the elderly to help them live longer in their own homes with dedicated Home Care Packages. The funding is aimed at helping you access affordable personal care services. The funding you acquire can be used to pay support staff or access other useful services.

You can also leverage this government funding to pay for additional assistance like personal care, laundry, household chores, or even shopping.

While it might appear difficult to understand home care packages initially, they are quite straightforward. Some individuals require a more independent life. In this case, the Level 3 Home Care Package serves as the second highest level of the entire package.

A level 3 package typically offers around 10-13 hours of assistance every week. You can decide how you would like to break these hours over the entire course of the week.

When you are eligible for the Level 3 of the Home Care Package by the Australian Government, some assistance you can expect are:

  • Garden maintenance
  • Personal care assistance
  • Companionship and social activities
  • Help with shopping
  • Household assistance to keep your house organised
  • Transportation
  • Nutritional support and meal preparation
  • Specialised support, like hearing, care for cognitive needs, dementia care
  • Allied health services, like speech therapy, physiotherapy, and podiatry
  • Independent living assistance
  • Nursing services

Eligibility criteria for Level 3 Package?

If you wish to be eligible for a Home Care Package in Australia, you are expected to meet several requirements. Firstly, you should be 65 years or older (50 years for ATSI individuals). Secondly, you must be in need of relevant support services to remain securely and independently in your own home.

You are provided the Level 3 Home Care Package as the ACAT team must have assessed your profile as requiring intermediate or comprehensive care needs. You require more than basic home care needs, still less than the intensive care services offered to those at the Level 4.
